A collectible early 20th century French silver box, set with a beautifully painted enamel portrait of an elegant 18th century lady.
The finely rendered portrait is signed “Gamet” and depicts a fashionable woman in period dress, her powdered hair dressed with flowers against a pastoral background and shimmery blue guilloché sky. The enamel portrait is the centerpiece of the silver box, with decorative detailing around the perimeter of the lift-off top and along the side.
Petite and wonderfully evocative of the portrait miniature boxes from pre-Revolutionary France, it is just the sort of object to add interest to a dresser or vanity tray, or to tuck among a collection of jewelry and other treasures. The gilded interior offers a cozy place for rings, earrings, or other small keepsakes. This would also make quite an impressive presentation box for a jewelry gift. This is one of the loveliest antique silver boxes we have encountered.
