Antique Gold Monogram (MS or SM) Pendant with Rubies and Rose Cut Diamonds

Antique Gold Monogram (MS or SM) Pendant with Rubies and Rose Cut Diamonds
Flourished, Old World.
This early twentieth-century monogram pendant is executed beautifully in rich yellow gold, with the entwined initials for MS (or SM) traced in twinkly rose cut diamonds and vibrant rubies with subtle tonal variations — all in a decorative, reeded frame. The design is curvy, open, airy — the negative space artistically and thoughtfully employed.
We think this is perfect for someone with these initials, or who has loved ones named Michelle, Stephanie, etc. Or, we would be proud to wear this as a token of “Ms.” in honor of the title that came into widespread use only in the late twentieth century to acknowledge women without reference to their marital status, on par with “Mr.” Indeed, call me Ms!
Larger than many antique monogram pendants we encounter, this example has wonderful presence without feeling oversized. Whether the initials signify for you or not, this pendant is a striking piece of jewelry — a wonderful addition to a charm necklace or worn solo on a favorite chain.
Chain shown is not included.
Marked with maker’s mark and a partially rubbed hallmark that we believe may be a French horse's head. While the mark is no longer fully legible, a French origin before 1919 would be consistent with the style and craftsmanship of the piece.
18k gold, diamond, ruby.
Dimensions and weight:
● 35.7 mm long (including the bail)
● 27.5 mm wide
● 2.3 mm deep
● 5.9 grams
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
