Stunning, Spectacular.
This is surely one of the most beautiful and visually striking Victorian lockets we have had the pleasure to acquire, circa 1860. It is, without a doubt, heirloom-worthy.
A lattice of gold wire rope work criss-crosses the front, studded at the intersections by nine tall, chunky old mine cut diamonds. A tenth diamond is at the bail. The gold is a rich, velvety, luxurious warm yellow. The overall effect is wonderfully tactile and engages the eye and imagination. We are reminded of an Imperial Russian jeweled egg!
The locket opens on a side hinge to reveal two empty compartments, ready for your personal mementos. Both rims are present, with one original glass cover. The locket closes securely with a satisfying “snap.” The reverse is graced with an applied, raised monogram — an extra luxe touch.
