The larger, earlier antique heart-shaped gold padlocks are always a prized find, as they are becoming increasingly scarce. Ours is early Victorian (circa 1840s), quite large and substantial — and doubly sentimental with the turquoise forget-me-not motif. We love the dimensional scrollwork and the textural stippling. We do not know when we will find another of this caliber.
The reverse contains a glass-fronted compartment, with original hairwork. Padlock opens and closes properly.
