Antique Belle Époque Cherub Portrait Pendant Watch, with Crowned Winged Watch Brooch Pin

Antique Belle Époque Cherub Portrait Pendant Watch, with Crowned Winged Watch Brooch Pin
Supremacy of Love.
The most darling pendant watch and brooch set — a wearable work of art in miniature. The watch is graced with a fine polychrome enamel portrait of three rosy-cheeked, winged cherubs among fluffy clouds. A cobalt blue enamel border studded with rose cut diamonds frames the scene, adding just the right sparkle and contrast. On the reverse, the luminous, tonal rayed dial gleams with gold Arabic numerals, framed by more exquisite enamel work.
Perhaps the pièce de résistance? The pendant watch retains its original companion brooch — a rarity, as many have been separated over the years. The brooch features a crowned pair of enameled wings, set with old cut diamonds and pearls — alluding to the supremacy of love, rising above all.
Wear the watch suspended from the hidden hook at the back of the brooch, just as it would have been worn in its day. Or mix it up — the brooch solo, the watch on a favorite period chain, or the brooch anchoring another antique pendant. So many possibilities!
For more information about these highly decorative (yet functional) pendant or brooch watches, see How The Watch Was Worn, by Genevieve Cummins, at pages 183-92.
Trombone safety clasp on the brooch.
Chain shown is not included.
Marked “K18”, Swiss Helvetia hallmark for 18k gold, “Swiss,” and a serial number (watch); unidentified marks (pin).
18k gold (watch and pin), 14k gold (pin fittings), enamel, diamond, pearl.
Dimensions and weight:
● 40.3 mm long (watch); 20.5 mm long (brooch)
● 26.7 mm wide (watch); 42.7 mm wide (brooch)
● 9.2 mm deep (watch); 10 mm deep (brooch)
● 31.7 grams total (23.3 grams watch, 8.4 grams brooch)
● .60 ctw diamond
Period: Late Victorian/Edwardian (1895-1905)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. We observe minor enamel scratches and two edge chips that were recently and professionally repaired. Under magnification, we note clear epoxy or similar reinforcement at the pearl attachment points atop the crown. The watch is pin-set, manually wound, and in running order as of this writing (serviced when we bought this), but it is sold without guarantee or warranty on the movement.
