Antique Georgian Gold and Agate Egg Locket Pendant

Antique Georgian Gold and Agate Egg Locket Pendant
Symbolic, Surprising.
We love a jewel that keeps a little mystery.
Dating to the early 19th century, this English Georgian pendant takes the form of a pleasing egg, carved from richly figured agate. The stone has wonderful natural variations in color, swirling from rich espresso to toffee to caramel to café au lait and shades in between.
The egg is encircled at its widest point by two gold bands, one stippled and embellished with ivy leaves, a symbol of eternity and loyalty. The egg opens into two halves — simply twist at the gold bands, which conceal a screw closure that remains precise and functional after two centuries. Inside the compartment, tuck a memento of your own — a love note, perhaps?
The design is wonderfully restrained, with the gold bands closely following the contours of the egg, barely interrupting its smooth silhouette. The pendant is so tactile — deliciously cool and satisfyingly smooth in the hand. The egg itself is also deeply symbolic, long associated with new beginnings — fertility, life, and renewal. Combined with the ivy, this egg pendant is a sentimental jewel, surely treasured over the past 200 years.
Georgian egg compartment pendants have become increasingly scarce in recent years. This one — of a very good size — has been in our personal collection for many years. We loved its simple form so much that we made one in gold for our ourselves. Now, the original is ready to meet its new custodian.
