Vintage Gold Heraldic Eagle Medallion Pendant

Vintage Gold Heraldic Eagle Medallion Pendant
Bold, Strong.
We do love a large gold medallion, especially one with heraldic imagery and a motto. Here, a substantial 14k gold pendant is intricately hand-engraved with eagles, coronets, a heraldic shield and flags that appear to bear St. George’s Cross, along with the Latin motto “Non generant aquilae columbas” — “Eagles do not beget doves.” The motto expresses pride in family lineage and the expectation that each generation passes on its strength, courage, and character to the next.
We were initially drawn to the medallion for its visual appeal, but of course had to do a little research! We learned that the motto and heraldic imagery are associated with the Rodney family, whose history in England stretches back centuries. The Barony of Rodney was created in 1782, and the title remains in the family to this day.
We acquired this medallion intending to keep it in our personal collection, but ultimately decided to add it to our inventory. We had a substantial gold bail custom-made by hand, carefully proportioned to complement the medallion’s statement size. Absolutely fabulous in a stack of talismans!
