Antique Georgian Flat Cut Garnet and Citrine Witch's Heart Brooch

$2,450.00

Beguiling, Beloved.

Once an amulet of protection, by the 18th century, the witch’s heart evolved into a sentimental symbol of “bewitchment” by love. This late Georgian example is set with flat cut garnets and embellished with citrines — we see flames and a stylized arrow.

Gemstones are set closed backed in silver.

This witch’s heart is somewhat larger than others we have encountered, and makes quite the visual statement. Gorgeous as a brooch, but try pinning to a ribbon to wear as a choker.

Marked at the C clasp with a worn and unidentified hallmark, possibly later marked (we believe the C clasp and pin were restored/reinforced in antiquity).

Silver, garnet, citrine (the pin tests as gold).

Dimensions and weight:

● 37.4 mm long

● 34 mm wide

● 4.8 mm deep (not including pin)/7.4 mm deep (including pin)

● 8.2 grams

Period: Georgian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. We observe minor scratches and a couple of fleabites to the gemstones, in our opinion quite normal and acceptable antique wear.

*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
