So French. So Art Nouveau.

This is one of the prettiest French sentimental medallions we have seen. It was made by famed Parisian jeweler, Gaston Laffitte, as part of a series of medallions and rings in the theme of the “Language of Flowers.” From an advertisement from 1912, we see that there were at least 5 medallions and 2 rings in the series — and this one, with Violets, was one of them. (The advertisement was found on the website of Jean-Jacques Richard at https://www.richardjeanjacques.com/2019/10/gaston-eugene-omar-lafitte-joaillier.html).

Everything about this spendant is just so of the period — the cut out gold lettering, the flowers, the plique-à-jour in a lovely shade of peacock, and the sentiment “Amitié Sincère” rendered in the quintessential Art Nouveau font.

Gorgeous patina and a delight to find this rare medallion in such fine condition, with the enamel intact (think of this as your own personal stained glass treasure). Fabulous with a French filigree chain of the period.

Marked with French eagle’s head and maker’s mark (rubbed and worn); also a serial number on the reverse.
