Antique Late Georgian Gold and Turquoise Long Chain

Antique Late Georgian Gold and Turquoise Long Chain
Regal, Elegant.
This grand dame of a chain is a marvel of texture and scale. Eight faceted, etched, light catching batons are connected by intricate woven links, terminating in a gorgeous turquoise studded, engraved clasp. Look closely to see stippled “vines”, geometric diamond within diamond shapes, engraved plumage/foliage, and the occasional polished surface for contrast.
We love wearing this long or doubled. It holds its own, given its bold yet elegant presence, but we do love it worn to “frame” other antique necklaces and pendants, as seen in the photo with our Edgy Gold Heart Pendant. If you have a large period locket, this would be a dramatic companion. Feel free to experiment.
Early chains like this one are increasingly hard to find. The best antiques often are.
Pendant and other chain shown in the modeled photo are not included.
Unmarked.
14k to 15k gold (tests, at different spots), turquoise.
Dimensions and weight:
● 49.25 inches long
● 5.8 mm wide and deep
● 52 grams
Period: Late Georgian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age commensurate wear may be present. There are a few of the belcher style links that were discreetly reinforced (normal for an authentic chain of this age); in addition, we note that one baton link (the one closest to the tongue part of the clasp) is dented at one of the facets at the center of the baton (not readily noticeable and dent does not pierce the gold). See close-up photo. During photography, we noticed an antique belcher replacement link, which tests 10k (at buyer’s option, our jeweler can replace it with a 14k link; please just ask).
