Antique Edgy Gold Heart Pendant

Antique Edgy Gold Heart Pendant
Multi-faceted, Edgy.
We do like surprises. We have a fondness for heart jewelry; we’ve seen plenty. We stopped in our tracks when we spotted this early Victorian heart adorning the swanlike neck of one of our favorite dealers. We literally took this off her neck. Now it’s here, on offer to you.
The heart is an age-old symbol of love — this one is different from the rest, with eight sides — edgy and geometric. True to the period, it is studded with turquoise gemstones and hand engraved with foliate details. Even better? The heart is suspended from two ornate chains. On the reverse, a glass covered compartment encloses a lock of hair. We do believe this was a love token and not a mourning piece.
We see this on an antique watch chain, on a Georgian chain, worn with other sentimental charms (great for layering, given the lengthy drop of this pendant).
Chain necklaces shown are not included.
Unmarked.
15k gold, turquoise (or paste).
Dimensions and weight:
● 89 mm long total (including bail); 18 mm long on heart
● 19 mm wide
● 5.4 mm deep
● 6.4 grams
Period: Late Georgian/Early Victorian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age commensurate wear may be present. The bail is a new, 18k one (replacing a much smaller, unsoldered loop found with the pendant). There are a couple of discrete, antique repairs with soft solder that are not readily discernible (at the juncture where one chain joins the heart). In addition, upon close examination, we see that one half of a small bead on the chain is deficient on the back — not readily discernible and not visible from the front.
