Luminous, Opulent.

An exceptional circa 1820s French demi-parure, centered on glowing citrines and enlivened with antique diamonds — the kind of romantic suite that conjures candlelit salons and a return to splendor after the restoration of a monarchy and the end of years of war in Europe.

At its heart is a glorious convertible brooch/pendant, composed of a richly layered cluster with floral and foliate accents: a large central citrine framed by a full halo of beautifully matched citrines. Most unusually, this set is punctuated by over 40 lively antique rose-cut diamonds — a detail seldom seen in citrine parures of this era. Below, an articulated “garland” suspends a diamond and citrine drop, adding movement and light with every turn. Crafted in the distinctive multi-color gold (here, pink and green) so characteristic of French work of the period, the overall effect is refined and regal.

A mark of craftsmanship and versatility, the brooch is seamlessly convertible to a pendant via a removable slip-on bail that attaches to a hook at the rear, with pin mechanisms that screw on and off. The convertible elements are elegant and intentional — not an afterthought — and speak to the ingenuity of the era’s goldsmiths.

The suite is completed by a pair of matching drop earrings, echoing the same citrine and diamond floral and foliate design. They are balanced, luminous, and beautifully proportioned. Wear the earrings and pendant/brooch together or separately — so many options await.

The set is housed in a charming period silk and velvet lined sabot-shaped box — a companion that elevates the entire presentation. How stunning would this suite look on display in the home of a collector.

For examples of comparable jewelry and discussion of the period, see Bennett and Mascetti, Understanding Jewellery, at 74–75; and Vever, French Jewelry of the Nineteenth Century, at 143–218.

Marked with the French eagle’s head on the (later replacement) earring wires, and with the French owl on the brooch/pendant fittings, including the removable bail, pin, and c-clasp.

Chain shown not included.

18k gold, citrine, diamond.

Dimensions and weight:

● Brooch/Pendant: 78.2 mm long including bail / 66.7 mm long not including bail x 37.5 mm wide

● Earrings: 55 mm long including wire x 17 mm wide

● Approximately 34.5 ctw of citrine and 1.75 ctw of diamond

● 18.9 grams (brooch/pendant); 12.4 grams (earrings)

Period: Georgian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. The earring wires are later replacements (the originals were likely back-to-front closures). The box shows age-commensurate wear overall. The hinge is slightly loose, though the box closes as it should. When wearing as a pendant with the slip-on bail, we advise adding a security backing to the hook to prevent the bail from slipping off if the pendant is pushed upward during wear.
