Antique French Late 18th Century Scent Bottle Pendant
In the 18th century, the well-heeled carried scents (perfumes or perfumed smelling salts) in small flasks, to mask offending odors they encountered in their daily interactions.
This yellow and green gold and glass scent bottle pendant dates to the late 18th century, and a very similar example is in the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, in Paris (inventory number 57926). See http://collections.madparis.fr/flacon-107.
The gold top screws securely onto the bottle, and the pendant is suspended from a swivel bail. The gold displays a lovely guilloché pattern of parallel lines and dots and applied gold “pearls.” Remarkably, the bottle retains its original tiny glass stopper.
Today, fill this bottle with your favorite scent or perhaps loose colored gemstones to create a shaker pendant. This scent bottle pendant is rare, collectible, and best of all, very wearable!

Gold tests variably at 18k to at least 14k. We believe this to be French (looks, feels French, found in France).

● 38.5 mm wide
● 15 mm deep
● 30.8 grams (total); 2.2 grams gold top
Some surface wear to the glass, commensurate with its great age. Most notable is a minute chip at the lip of the bottle, above the screw threads, not affecting function and not visible when the gold top is in place. See third image.
