The moon and the stars.

We were immediately drawn to this late 19th-century French bangle. Of course, we love French jewels — but more than anything, we seek out the sentimental and symbolic. The face of this bangle is adorned with a line of crescent moons among stars, evoking the phases of the moon. Each is set with rose-cut diamonds in silver, catching the light with a soft shimmer perfectly suited to the night-sky motif.

Celestial themes abound in 19th-century jewelry, but this particular configuration is the first we’ve encountered — and we find it especially charming. The moon has long symbolized the feminine and cycles of renewal and transformation; the stars, guidance and constancy. Together, they speak to navigating life’s changes. This jewel is as meaningful and powerful as it is beautiful.

Streamlined in design, this bangle wears effortlessly, whether solo or paired with other period or contemporary pieces.

Safety chain is present. Shown on a 6 inch wrist.

Marked with the French provincial horse’s head (in use until 1919) and maker’s mark.

17k gold (marked with the horse’s head for 18k — though it is not uncommon for provincial French jewels of the period to test slightly under), silver, diamond.
