Antique Victorian Silver Shield Locket and Collar Necklace

Antique Victorian Silver Shield Locket and Collar Necklace
Victorian, Modern. Protective.
We’re always drawn to Victorian pieces that feel unexpectedly modern—this is one of them.
An oval silver locket with a central shield—long associated with protection—anchors this piece. The front is engraved with scrolling detail that frames a smooth shield cartouche, offering contrast between texture and polish.
The locket suspends from a bolt ring on its companion collar, composed of repeating oblong tubular links, each tipped with beads. The construction is precise and rhythmic, imparting a clean, architectural feel. It sits close to the neck with a structured but fluid drape.
The combination works well: a traditional, symbolic locket paired with a collar that reads modern. The two may also be worn separately for versatility.
Marked with Birmingham assay marks for sterling silver, date letter “f” (rubbed) for 1880, and maker’s mark “DLB” (rubbed) on the locket; unmarked on the collar.
Silver.
Dimensions and weight:
● Locket: 57mm long (including bail) x 33.8 mm wide x 11.4 mm deep; 16.8 grams
● Collar: 17 inches long x 24 mm wide x 2.8 mm deep; 46.4 grams
Period: Late 19th century (Victorian)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. There is a pinpoint impression to the front of the locket and a couple of small, very shallow impressions to the reverse, none of which detract from the overall appearance. The paper and replacement plastic inserts found within the locket at the time of acquisition will be included.
*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
