(SOLD) Antique Late 17th/Early 18th Century Iberian Gold and Diamond Cruciform Pendant

Radiant, Regal.
We were in Spain when we fell in love with this vivid beauty, instantly entranced by the mysterious dark glint of the diamonds set against the chiseled yellow gold setting. We have seen other, similar pendants, but this one stood out for the clarity of the floral and foliate details and the display of larger, flat rose-cut diamonds. Notably, the back is gorgeous as well, engraved with floral and foliate details, echoing the front.
Shortly thereafter, we spotted a nearly identical pendant — circa end of 17th century — in the extensive jewelry collection in the Casa-Museu Marta Ortigão Sampaio in Porto, Portugal. That pendant is exhibit no. 1 in the museum’s chronological display. We date our pendant also to the end of 17th century/early 18th century.
Our pendant is comprised of two, detachable parts. Two flat loops on the back of the top portion accommodate a ribbon; the round loop on the cross works well with a thicker chain or a silk cord. Wear this pendant in full, or as a “simpler” one piece cross. Either way, it is spectacular.
Marked with unidentified marks on both sections of the pendant.
18k gold, diamonds.

● 6.9 deep at deepest part
● 2.8 ctw diamonds (approximately 67 diamonds)
● 23.5 grams
