Antique Georgian White Enamel and Gold Mourning Band (1792)

$2,150.00

Collectible, Rare.

We are delighted to offer this scarce example of a late 18th century mourning band, rendered in gold and white enamel (white, for a child or unmarried woman). In this case, the ring memorializes "Mary Newton ob 23 Oct 1792” — someone who lived, was loved, and died more than 230 years ago. We are merely the latest custodian of this tangible connection to her.

The overall impression is simplicity and purity — clean lines, squared font, all accentuated by white. Stack with other gold and black mourning bands for a dramatic look (see first photo to view this band paired with a black mourning band from 1776).

Unmarked.

14k/15k gold, enamel.

Dimensions and weight:

●  4 mm wide x 2 mm deep

●  6.1 grams

●  US size 6.5 to 6.75; cannot be resized

Period: Georgian (circa 1792)

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. The band is curved on the inside, for a particularly comfortable and smooth fit.

*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
