Key to My Heart. Locked in Love

The Victorians were sentimentalists. This brooch, circa 1890/1900 is a love token — the key to a beloved’s heart, encrusted with antique rose cut diamonds. A skeleton key with a decorative open trefoil top suspends a heart-shaped padlock charm, complete with a tiny “keyhole.” The diamonds are set in silver on top of gold, as was customary at the time. C-clasp closure.

A similar example in gold and pearls by the the venerable firm of Mappin & Webb is seen in “Victorian Jewelry,” with introduction by Peter Fink, at age 103. Dare we say we think ours is the more lovely?

Wear this on the horizontal, vertical, or any angle in between. Experiment to your heart’s desires.

Unmarked.
