(SOLD) Antique Rare Austro-Hungarian Abalone Shell Inlaid Gold Watch Chain

$0.00
Sold

Spellbinding, Spectacular.

A handsome, substantial watch chain shimmers with vibrant, iridescent color — from the panels of inlaid shell of abalone. We see the hues of a peacock’s feather — vivid blues, greens, and violets. Examine the details — each long link is set with 4 inlaid panels of shell, including even the terminals of the T-bar. Intricately woven chains connect each long link. The original clasps are intact — a dog clasp and an oversized bolt ring. This is truly a spectacular specimen of a rare watch chain, complete with hallmarks placing its origins to Vienna, 1872 to 1922.

We can search for decades and not find another watch chain quite like this one. So beautiful, but also so wearable.

Marked with Austro-Hungarian fox head, assayed in Vienna, between 1872 and 1922.

14k gold, abalone shell.

Dimensions and weight:

● 23.25 inches long from end to end (not including the dropper chain, which is 1.8 inches long)

● 23.2 mm long each long link

● 4.4 mm wide/deep

● 47.7 grams

Period: Victorian/Edwardian; 1872-1922.

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. One abalone shell panel in the T-bar is an expert replacement.
