Antique Miniature Gold Mesh Purse Pendant

Antique Miniature Gold Mesh Purse Pendant
Miniature, Charming.
We’re always on the lookout for antique gold mesh purse pendants, and over the years we’ve handled several — large and small, plain and ornate. Every time, we’re struck by the sheer labor involved: multitudes of hand-formed links joined one by one to create a mesh that’s fluid and silken.
This example is the smallest we’ve ever had. One can’t help but wonder if it was once made for the doll of a very fortunate young lady, over a century ago. Despite its diminutive scale, the level of craftsmanship is just as admirable — perhaps more so given the extreme fineness of the links.
Today, it’s an inspired little object with enduring charm. It can be used as a presentation pouch (we love the idea of a Luck and Lockets Minigram pendant tucked inside), or as a tiny keeper for other treasures or necessities — a petite ring, a charm, even medication. A loop at the back accommodates a chain fitted with a slender lead, a spring ring, dog clip, or similar clasp for suspension.
Marked with French St. Jacques shell, applied later for resale, and the letter G.
First photo shows pendant with a US dime inside, for scale.
14k gold.
Dimensions and weight:
● 38 mm long (from top of lock to bottom of dangling beads)
● 26 mm wide
● 3 mm deep
● 3.5 mm internal diameter of suspension loop
● 21.5 mm internal width of opening (to determine the width of an object that will fit inside the purse pendant)
● 4.2 grams
Period: Edwardian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age commensurate wear may be present.
*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
