Antique Mid-19th Century Gold, Pearl & Rose Cut Diamond Vinaigrette Locket Pendant -- Distinctive Chain Construction

Antique Mid-19th Century Gold, Pearl & Rose Cut Diamond Vinaigrette Locket Pendant -- Distinctive Chain Construction
Elegant, Unique.
Have a browse through our shop and you will soon notice that we love functional jewelry. Here is a favorite find from Paris — an elegant and beautifully made mid-19th-century bloomed gold vinaigrette locket that feels satisfyingly weighty in the hand. Pleasingly round and dimensional, with Etruscan Revival influences, the front is graced with a soft, glowing pearl surrounded by six rose-cut diamonds in tulip-shaped silver settings.
What distinguishes this beauty from other vinaigrettes is the ingenious use of a solid chain motif in place of the usual pierced grill. On both the front and back, the applied chain accents are not only decorative but functional — the open links allow fragrance to gently diffuse from within.
If desired, instead of a bit of perfumed gauze or cotton, you may tuck a personal token inside — a folded note, a meaningful word, a lock of hair. A jewel with purpose, ready to be personalized.
We have not encountered another vinaigrette quite like this one — a rare piece for the collector who appreciates originality.
Marked with French owl; we believe this to be French work, marked later for resale.
Chains shown are not included.
18k gold, silver, pearl, diamond.
Dimensions and weight:
● 40.5 mm long (including bail)
● 27.2 mm wide
● 14.3 mm deep
● 16 grams
Period: Victorian (circa 1850/60)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. The bail is a faceted split ring that may be a period appropriate replacement; it does not detract from desirability and in fact, its generous size is a plus. Locket closes properly with a gentle press fit.
*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
