In the Decontructed Series, classic Victorian and Edwardian long chains are reconfigured for modern versatility. Here, a heavyweight antique long guard chain, in lovely fancy textured and woven link, was divided into shorter lengths, intended for multitasking.

We took inspiration from the look and practicality of antique watch chains. We configured the deconstructed chains as sets, comprised of a main chain with a spring ring and an extension/dropper chain with a dog clip. Each set is intended to be as useful as it is beautiful.

Use the dropper chain to wear in a Y chain formation, suspending a favorite pendant at one or both clasps. (See photo of Chain Set A, worn). Use the dropper to extend the length of the main chain — or any other chain from your collection. Or wear only the main chain when a shorter length is desired. In any configuration, the clasps do double duty to suspend pendants or charms.

For all chains: 3.5 mm wide and deep

• (SOLD) Chain Set A: Ready to ship. Main chain is 19 inches long and extension/dropper chain is 2.25 inches long; 22.5 grams. This option retains the original spring ring clasp. Chain Set A is shown in the first photo.

• Chain Set B: Made to order. Main chain will be approximately 16.5 inches long. Accompanying extension/dropper chain will be approximately 2 inches long. Weight projected to be approximately 19.5 grams

• Chain Set C: Made to order. Main chain will be approximately 17.75 inches long. Accompanying extension/dropper chain will be approximately 2 inches long. Weight projected to be approximately 20.5 grams.

• (RESERVED FOR M) Chain Set D: Made to order. Main chain will be approximately 19 inches long. Accompanying extension/dropper chain will be approximately 2 inches long. Weight projected to be approximately 21.5 grams.

• (SOLD) Chain Set E: Made to order. Main chain will be approximately 19.5 inches long. Accompanying extension/dropper chain will be approximately 2.2 inches long. Weight projected to be approximately 22.5 grams.

Options B through E will be made with a new 14k spring ring and period dog clip. Please allow for some variances in the finished chains from the above approximated lengths and weights (we can only cut the chain at certain junctures due to the long bar construction). Please allow at least 1 week lead time for shipment of Chain Sets B through E. (We offer 5 configuration options, but only 3 chain sets can be made from the available length of chain; order early for best chance to get the configuration you need, especially if it is for one of the longer lengths).
