(SOLD) Antique French Victorian Twist Filigree Convertible Double Collar/Sautoir

$0.00

This is a very fine example of a French filigree chain, circa 1900, distinguished by two dimensional twists of gold “ribbon” within each marquise shaped link. It is convertible, due to a fixed loop cleverly and expertly added to the chain. Wear this sautoir long, with the spring ring in front or on the side, with or without a locket or pendant. Or, wear as a chic double collar, clasping the spring ring to the fixed loop. Yet another option is to wear the double collar swagged, with the spring ring to the front, displaying a period locket or pendant as a dramatic centerpiece. When worn as a double collar, the strands nestle gracefully at 16 and 18 inches. The chain feels weighty and smooth to the touch.

Locket shown is not included.

Unmarked (a sautoir was often cut down to divide among heirs, losing marks along the way).

18k gold.

Dimensions and weight:

●       34 inches/86 cm long (the chain is “closed”; measurements are taken as if chain were laid open end to end); each link is 18 mm long

●       7 mm wide

●       1.5 mm deep

●       36 grams

Period: Victorian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
